Help... Trying to date and identify Pearl drums

Loading...

Hello first post here and I need some help. I bought this set for my son who is learning to play, funny story is i actually owned this same set and sold it when he was born to help pay for his medical bills (he was a sick baby), found them 13 years later and went to look at them and knew i was my old set( scratch's replaced parts, marks i made on them). Anyway i was told when i bought them used that they are Pearl Exports and that they where about 6 years old. I bought them in the early 90's so that would put them in the mid 80's range. I have been researching it trying to find bottom hoops for my son (the where off when i bought them) but am running into trouble finding the right one when i look for mid 80's export hoops. Please help me identify these drums.

Thanks

I'm sure you'll get some answers soon, lots of good people here to help. In the meantime check the catalog scans here. ^^ upper right corner under the "Visit our Partner websites" click on the "vintage drum guide" section and you'll see the header for the Pearl section. Long ago I bought my son a Export set and they sounded great. I always liked Pearl drums a lot. Nice looking kit you have and that's really cool they came back to you again! Don't let them go this time.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

These are "early"Exports, due to their standard as opposed to "hair band"depths.Early-mid eighties, and you may be able to decipher the serial #s.

I remember the era well... Before the big 'square' drums of a few years later, as mentioned above. I was taking private lessons at the local music store from the late 70's into the late 80's and saw a lot of Pearl and CB kits pass through there.

If you need hoops, try looking at the CB-700 hoops (early CB kits share the same lugs too) as they are the same from my experience on the export kits (later CB lugs were different). I had a similar era Powersonic kit and the lugs and hoops were the same on that too. It seemed all the Taiwan kits were using the same lugs and hoops.

I hope that helps!

PS really cool to get your old kit back to pas down to the next generation!
