Help Please Looking for Gretsch 14x14 or 16x16 Floor Tom Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Hi Everyone! it has been a while. Since October! At the time I was asking about restoring a Gretsch Aqua Satin Round Badge. Well It is Started.. There was a whole in the Bass Drum from a different Ludwig Hercules mount. It is being plugged up. I purchased the Turquoise Wrap from precision Drums.. I am looking for either a 14x14 or 16x16 floor tom. Obviously I don't care about the color or condition of wrap as long as it is a 60's era and it has the orange and white tag and the hardware is good with the diamond plate leg mounts.. I've tried Ebay and reverb.. Anyone know where I can find one that is reasonable? Thanks, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

"reasonable" is unlikely to apply to any 14x14s. They are sought after and tend to be pricey. 16s are more reasonable but generally still not cheap, even as project drums.

When I needed a 14x14 to rewrap for one of my sets I ended up buying a Renown (brand new for $150) and using that. I'll admit that it is NOT a round badge drum (even though it has the correct badge on it now) but it blends in just fine with the older drums. I have a couple of RB 14s and the only real difference is that the build quality of the Renown is much better. In a perfect world I'd prefer to have the real deal for that set too but when you factor in the cost the ersatz one does the trick just fine. If the real one comes along I can always sell the rewrapped Renown for what I have into it (maybe more).

On the goodwill auction site a RB 16x16 floor tom with hardware sold for $89. Deals are out there. Cheapest RB set I scored was a 13 16 20 for $180 with hardware.

Thanks K.O. I'll probably have to do the same thing. If I have to change the badge on it , so be it.. I have the wrap already.. And like you said, Us it until I find one.

I have a 60's RB 16" but it is literally buried behind stacks of drums in my basement. It's got the diamond plate legs etc. and was painted at one time. No extra holes, hardware is in good condition and will polish up nicely. The problem is fishing it out!

I have some new drums coming tomorrow and I'll have to make room for them over the week-end. When I start moving stuff around, I'll scare up the floor tom and send you some photos. Perfect project drum for you, bare wood ready for wrap and everything is there. You won't need to hunt for missing parts.

PM me an offer...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I took the plunge on the 14 RB about a year ago. Not cheap at all. The drum didn't have a wrap and looked to have a natural dark stain on there. I found the remaining orphans and had the bop kit professionally wrapped. I managed to find an 18" RB converted floor to bass conversion, so the hard work had already been done on that drum. They turned out beautiful and that is my primary jazz kit. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Sound great. In the end, the investment was about equal or less than the newish South Carolina made Keller kits. Character and "that Jasper sound."
