Help needed on vintage Gretsch two-piece

Loading...

New member here looking for some help ID'ing and putting approximate value on a two-piece Gretsch kit with hardware that my co-worker had gotten from an old friend. Badges are missing. Not sure exactly what era this is looking at the tom mount, and I couldn't find any matching kits in old catalogues. Any info would be much appreciated.

Funny mix - I don't remember Gretsch having T-rods like that - look more like Rogers ...

... and did they do triple flanged hoops?

Happy to be corrected!

(Agreed on the Tom Tom mount)

50's Gretsch had the faucet handle bass drum T's up to a point.

Lug footprint on mounted tom looks wrong for Gretsch. Almost more like a Slingerland lug but hoops look wrong for that. Possibility that is a MIJ tom with the Slingy copy lugs.

I did some cleanup on the drums. Once the bass drum was apart, I did find the tom mount and bass drum spur areas were cut out rather crudely. The rest of the drilling seemed to be ok. They both cleaned up alright, though. The tom casings are slightly different from the bass ones, so are these shells not the same or were the casings replaced? I'm wondering if they are actually Gretsch shells or not now. I'm very new to trying to gather info on this vintage stuff.

So even with the modifications, any ideas what might be a reasonable price for these drums with the hardware?

From vintagemore2000

Only the first picture is of the tom. Inside pictures and drill holes are just of the bass drum. The tom seemed alright to me, but I can always post a picture of the inside of that later. It did have the same white coat on it.
