Help Me, color? year? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

I have just cleaned up this Ludwig kit. B/O badges, clear interior 3 ply shells. Sizes: 14x24, 2-10x14, 18x20. Came with a 6.5x14 Supra. My questions, About what year and is this Psych. Red? I haven't seen a color quite like this. A complete kit except for bottom lugs, rods and hoop on a 10x14. Also got 70's era Atlas HH stand, snare stand, 3 cymbal stands. What do you think?

Well that's not much red for "Psychedelic Red", and it certainly ain't "Mod Orange". I have seen sets with that amount of red before.

Yes it's Psychedelic Red. A Ludwig employee told me: The last sheets of psych red wrap were like this. It's one of several reasons the wrap was discontinued, the main reason being nobody was buying psych red at that time.

Probably made mid 70's. Granitone interior usually found on drums with that finish. They're rare but not collected much. Singles show up "the bay" regularly.

I'd say this is a fairly rare kit – 24" kicks and 20" floor toms from the 70's aren't SUPER common these days, and even the darker 70's psych red (which is what these are) isn't common. Combining the two makes this kit pretty special. Where did you find it? How much did you get it for? Can you post pics of one of the badges, or at least give us a serial number? Late 70's stuff can be hard to place, but we can get close.

I'd be really, really happy to own this kit! If you payed less than $1000 (with a 6.5" 70's supra? Gold!) then you made out like a serious bandit!

Thanks, guys for the info. I knew the clear 3 ply shells were a good thing but didn't know about the late period wrap. I'll go get the serial numbers and post them. A guitar friend of mine had these. He got them for some money owed him. He had them set up in his garage with his other "jam" equipment. I traded him some really nice Premiers that sounded more modern for his situation and $200. I didn't get hurt. He kept the Ludwig Standard cymbals. (16", 18" crashes and 14" HH)

Wow, they are B/O pointed badges and they have a place for a serial number but it's blank. What do think? I don't see how they could be rewraps with the repo badges but has anybody heard of B/O badges without serial numbers?

B+O badges without serial numbers are not uncommon. You need The Ludwig Serial Number Guidebook. It's a book by a member here, Tim Giers, who posts as KCDrumdad? Rob Cook at Rebeats has it, it's 15 bucks post paid.

Well, my guess is...(clear interiors, rerings present , no serial# on pointy b/o badging..

Late 1970/71....!

The wrap may be orig or not...

My guess is its valuable..(with the snare,....$1200+)

The sizes are all big...lol

Maybe use the 20" Flrtom as the Bassdrum...

Use a rim mount on the 14" Tom....to reuse as a Flr....?

It's a long shot, but maybe try to trade out 1 of the 14" toms

For a 12 or 13" matching tom...?

Just an idea...

Hope all Wrks out...

Great kit..
