Help identifying old Ludwig snare Last viewed: 22 hours ago

Loading...

hello guys,

just bought an old Ludwig kit. 62ish (pre serial number) downbeat in blue oyster. The guy said the snare was an Acrolite. But it's got 10 lugs. 5" deep. 4 figure serial number, so 63 ish. Any ideas what it is? Is it a 400 that's had the chrome stripped? or a 10 lug Acrolite?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

the pics are here..

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks andy

I only know there exists a few 60's 10 lugs Acrolite which is rare.

But, I'm not sure this is a 400 that's had the chrome stripped based on the pics.

$400? If it is a good shape and rare one, I'd buy it.

Someone knows about it.

my guess would be a supra that had peeled badly and was stripped. the lugs on that appear to have heavy pitting which may be an indicator of the original condition of the drum. the ones without chrome usually have a different appearance than that one does.

Looks to me like a stripped supra, and they left the badge on the drum when they did it.You can see that the finish was not completely stripped away around the badge.

I agree with Steve on this one, a sloppy job, but it should still sound just fine.
