Help identify snare drum please

Loading...

Hi guys, I've got this snare drum, I can't work out what it is, hopefully someone knowledgeable will find it easy :)

13 inch, wood - not sure what type - with re-rings (?).

I'm not sure if the top hoop is original, looks pretty standard. Not sure if the bottom one is original either, but it's quite unique, solid quality.

My only hint is probably Sonor, it has the Sonor type slotted tension rods and they fit (I tried several "standard" rods and they didn't fit).

Maple with birch re-rings would be my guess? No idea of the series/vintage.

I thought there might have been something printed on the bottom of the throw off, but it just looks like lines/decoration to me.

Can't find any other writing or anything.

Thanks!

Hey grantro, thanks for the reply.

Ah yes, Premier had/has some slotted tension rods as well don't they. I had Sonor in my head for some reason, but thanks for the hint.

Those are Olympic lugs so it is an Olympic snare drum which was made by Premier.

The bottom hoop is a Premier die cast beer barrel hoop from the 60s. The top is some generic hoop.

Premier used slotted tension rods on most of their drums.

It would have looked like this originally.

Hey thin shell, well spotted! Thanks.

I was wondering if it came in wood finish, or if it would be sacrilege to re-wrap it. Definitely looks nicer than normal drums with the wrap removed. Options.

Cheers!
