Help dating Rogers Classmate snare

Loading...

I am getting ready to clean up this Classmate I bought and I always like to research a drum and check out it's background.

I know drum making was anything but an exact science in those days but this one has me a little confused.

Here is what I know from this web site and the Rob Cook Rogers book...

4" x 13" Classmate label - 1954 to 1962 Listed as available in black or white lacquer (not WMP). Shown in catalog with Eagle badge (not alum oval).

"Universal Throw-off" strainer with twisted lever - Started in 1960

Aluminum Oval Badge - Classmate and Banner snares of the 50's rob cook. 1959 VDF Drum Guide

3 ply re-rings - no reference

So, with all this, I would say.......1960 to 1962. Probably closer to 1960

A left over oval badge from '59 and a new strainer from 1960 with a current shell.

Any thoughts?

Anyone know what these shells were made from?

They are a 3 ply (all 3 equal size) with a 3 ply (again, 3 equal plies) re-ring.

They look like maple. I guess maple was so cheap in those days, even these low end items might have been made from maple.
