Hello All

Hello all, I'm a 16 year old big band/swing/jazz drummer. I am mostly a big band/swing drummer; although, I do venture in to some bop. Mainly, just early Bird and Diz, Miles Davis when he had "Philly Joe' with him. I play a Gretsch "Catalina Maple" drum kit but I changed a lot of things about it. I sawed the bass drum down 4 inches; so now it is a 14x22, and I added a DW ride cymbal bass drum mount. I also have a mid-to-late Rogers (Dayton era) "pink strata" drum kit. Sizes are 14x22, 9x13, and 16x16. The wrap is cracked, some of the 'Swiv-O-Matic' hardware is completely stripped. I think the 9x13 shell is cracking, and the bearing edges need to be redone. I am hoping to restore it to where it can be played almost everyday.

Welcome to VDF! You should post a "Wanted to Buy" thread for the Swivo stuff you need. I'm sure there are a few members here that have what you need. Also, post some pics of your Rogers kit - the damaged spots in particular - and I'm sure you'll get some tips on how to "bandage" them.

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
