I did not know John Gueurin played on that track. Sad to see he passed.
There is a great cover by Brian Setzer orch. on his live from japan dvd. Most likely also on You tube, tympani and all!

I'm baffled.
And getting there via the links on from http://musicmusicmusic.cn/ doesn't work?
It's gotta be something on my end.... I'll check my default security/firewall/spyware settings and see what happens.
No biggie
Fun to listen to, thanks for posting them.
I was able to play it and my company blocks everything on the web. I thought the Ventures did the theme or did they just cover it?
Thanks. There's a nice fill where Johnny plays 1/16th note rolls down his toms and goes right over the first beat of the next bar. I always think of Tony Williams when he does that.
There's also a realy "wonky" note in the trumpet track and last week I got into a discussion with my trumpet player about whether it was a mistake in the original track. My friend ended up phoning Ollie Mitchell, who was one of the trumpet players on the original 5-0 theme and he said it probably was a mistake and they left it in. Ollie is funny - he's played with the Beatles and can hardly remember many of the hits he was on.
Same with Bill Perkins from the Tonight Show band. He was in my studio and said my song sounded like Steely Dan, and added "I played with them". I asked him on what track or album and he didn't have a clue. I ended up looking it up and amongst other things he, Tom Scott and Wayne Shorter were the horns on "Deacon Blues". And if you'd asked Bill he'd have never have heard of that song (to me Steely Dan's best), or the Aja album, he was more interested on where the tide was at so he could go snorkeling.
the 079 BPM sounds very marching band
The Band
The Hawaii 5-0 theme has got to be the #2 most murdered marching band song of all time, #1 would have to go to "Spinning Wheel" IMO.
I thought so too. I had the Ventures album but can't remember if it was the exact same track. To long ago and the vinyl is long gone. I had a blast playing that tune as a kid too. Wild man wild. D' Drummer

Yes, the Ventures did their own version but it wasn't the same - it was in their surf guitar style. It was popular too and did get some airplay. I think because of when it came out it was a career boost for them.
I think the L.A. studio band version from the tv show is by far the version most people know.
