Happy Late Birthday To Slingerlynn!

Loading...

I just wanted to send a late happy birthday to my good buddy Slingerlynn. If anyone else has had the true pleasure of talking with Lynn, you know he is a great guy. Anyway, Happy birthday Lynn, may you never be as old as the drums you play.

Bobby, I have had the pleasure of talking with him. I will be spraying a drum for him very soon. We talked drums for over an hour one night.

Happy BD Lynn! Talk soon!

Well, Bobby, you have drawn me out of the shadows. As you know, I don't like to log on until I have enough time to at least read the titles of all the threads - to see if I have :2Cents: to contribute - that have been started or updated since my last login, which is a large number since it has been a month now since I've logged in because I've had so much going on. But, oddly enough, I happened to open a link I got through an email alert about a thread I had posted in. Then I decided to click on "Today's Posts" while I still was not logged in just hoping to see a pic or two of some cool kits and get back to work, and I happened to see this thread.

Anyway, thank you Bobby...and thank you Jeff, Blair, and Kevin!

I'll spare the "crappy" details of my birthday that I've already shared with Bobby and Jeff, but I will share the cool things that offset my little birthday misadventure. A couple years ago, Memphis Drum Shop had a few Zildjian K Constantinople 21" Prototype Ride cymbals on their mycymbal.com site. I'm a nut for a 21" ride, so I gave them a listen and really liked what I heard...low-pitched but not overly washy, good stick definition but still very crashable, and nice bell. The site said "Call for Price." So, figuring it would be about the same price as a 22" K Con ($495 at the time), or maybe a little higher, I gave them a call. I just called them a few minutes ago and had them go back in their records to find the price on it, because I had forgotten. Their initial price on it was $770!!! (I was thinking $720). At either price, it was WAY too much for me to spend on one modern cymbal. I'd pay that much for an old K, but not a new K. Anyway, I happened to see an eBay listing for a 21" K Zildjian Ride last week. It looked like more than a regular K, so I looked closer and it was a K Con 21" Prototype. It ended on Saturday evening, my birthday. I put a bid on it that I didn't expect would be the high bid, especially considering how the day had gone up to that point, but I got it for $5 less than my max bid (less than $300 to my door)! Jump For Joy So, that made me feel better after having a "crappy" birthday. Then, on Sunday, I was high bidder on a 22" hollow block stamp ride! Party So, my birthday went pretty well despite my little misadventure. God works in mysterious ways, right?

My wife says she only gave me the go-ahead to bid on these because she felt sorry for me because I had such a "crappy" birthday. Also, she says, I have to sell my 21" Sweet Ride if I decide I like the K Con better, or the K Con has to go quickly if I don't like it. I also have to sell my 22" late 50s ride if I like the hollow block stamp better. But, I'm OK with that. It'll be hard to let go of the Sweet Ride, but I can live with her stipulations.

I hope to get them in by this weekend because (1) I'm anxious to check them out, and (2) I have a pretty big gig this weekend that I'm pretty excited about. I'll try to keep you posted.

Thanks again guys! I truly appreciate the well wishes...and cherish the friendships I've made here with you guys. Group Hug

God bless you all!

Lynn

Hey Lynn,

Sorry to hear you had a Crappy birthday.. but at least it rhymes with Happy..

Seems like the cymbal deal is a nice compromise though..

Cheers

Yeah, Glenn, the "crappy" day was my birthday. Fortunately, it "stunk" more figuratively than literally...and the cymbal score helped settle me down. By the way, the K Con ride should be here today, according to the seller. However, he used UPS, and for some reason they wait until after my wife's office closes to deliver a lot of times. I had to chase them down to get the late 50s Slingerland snare I had and the Jazz Fest I still have off the truck. Anyway, thanks for the well wishes!

Thank you also, John! I hope you've been doing well. Are you still enjoying the Acrolite?

Yes Lynn,

Thanks.. It's a keeper for me.. I use it a lot.. I alternate it with the 6.5's I use..

(Actually it's a year today that I left for Colorado to collect it)..

All the best

John
