Guru much?

Loading...

I just noticed that it says "vintage drum guru" under my name. I don't feel any different. I just checked the mirror and I'm still the same ugly cuss!

So what's different? Well actually after several hundred posts and reading thousands and getting input, answers, comments, criticisms, info, I guess I have gotten a bit of an education over the past 4 years. I don't think I'm quite Guru status but I am very thankful for this forum. I've learned a great deal, and continue to learn, and I believe I've made some friends, gotten help, bought some nice pieces of gear, and have a place that I look forward to almost every day!

Thanks VDF

After a certain number of posts you become a guru. Some people reach that status faster more than others due to the fact they just like to post and see themselves as a guru, while not retaining much knowledge.

I don't consider myself a guru personally, I'm always learning. I consider a few friends that I have as to be gurus, Idrum4fun being one of them. He's sharp as a tack and has educated me quite a bit.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

If I could change my title it would say:

"guy who likes vintage drums and drums in general, mostly just learning as he goes along and enjoys the process but nowhere near as knowledgeable as many on this site"

Yeah.... I like that.

I was truly embarrassed when "guru" showed up under my name after asking 500 questions and getting 500 really good answers from people who are gurus.

Not a Guru... just interested..

This subject has come up before and I think Tommy P said it is just how the software came set up. I think when they rework the forum they will change it. I sure as heck am no guru.

Thank you!

They told me I was such a loser, they would NEVER allow my rank to escalate past "member". I could have fifty million posts and never rise past the member rank.....Laughing HLaughing HLaughing HLaughing H

You have more posts than I and I am considered a Guru???? No implication here, just a shot in the dark - does it have anything to do with whether or not you have contributed money?

On a side note - to some youngins (that come to my house and buy gear from me) I seem like a Vintage Drum Guru. I talk their ear off - telling them all about this and that - just trying to share my knowledge.

At the same time, I feel I am far from a Drum Guru, especially compared to so many of you on here. I have learned ALOT, but only scratching the surface of some people's knowledge on here.

While I am at it, I am going to add something else here. I went through a devastating divorce at about the time I signed up on here. Every aspect of my life had been stripped away and I felt like God pulled me out of the game. Well, I graduated from seminary since then, a BIG accomplishment. At the same time, I must say that being on here, learning about vintage drums, and sharing what I have learned.....has been a tremendous source of enjoyment and a boost to my self-esteem. It has been a very healthy thing for me to be on here.....and for that I am very grateful. Your help, encouragement, and kindness I will always cherish.

Thank you to all of you!

God Bless!

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
