a friend of mine posted these on facebook earlier... I have no clue what they are other than gretsch.. neither does he. but theyre cheap enough. the biggest questions I have are, what are they? how old are they? are they us made or import? estimation of value of a 5 piece set?

Steel rims and BD hoops so I'm thinking Blackhawk/ Renegade /Energy or whatever the student line is called this week.

They might be early Renowns. That badge was used early on (2001 ish) for some of the imported drums. I don't think the Blackhawks used it, not sure on the early Catalinas. The early Renowns had triple flange hoops rather than the die-casts they've had for the past few years.

There was a similar badge used on the Broadkaster and USA Maple lines but on those badges said "USA" on each side of the grommet. And, of course, the gold version with the "USA" was the USA Custom badge until relatively recently.

Does this help? Got it from my Rob Cook Gretsch Drum book.

The pictured badge has no U.S.A. on it- like Big R Rogers w/o U.S.A. or Slingerland w/o U.S.A. Do Renown's say U.S.A.? ARE they U.S.A.? It's a murky murk...and everyone's in it. I don't think a Renown set would have steel BD hoops regardless.
