Gretsch: Sell the matching snare or keep with the kit? Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

So I have this lovely kit for sale:

http://vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=56274

Someone locally (via CL ad) has asked if I would sell the snare by itself. What are your thoughts on that? Not much interest in the kit so far. Think it would generate more interest minus the snare and a corresponding adjusted price? Or should I wait it out? I can wait, but I'd rather not if it's all about the same.

My recommendation is to NOT split-up the original kit. It is worth more with all family members together & much more rare. Plus, in my case, a matter of principle. It is your set, though, so follow your heart. These drums do look nice! MarkE

Don't split it up if you can help it.

I say ok to split up and sell the snare only if you strongly believe it wasn't born with the rest and the fade on the wrap is off a shade or two.

I'm surprised your kit hasn't sold yet, especially as you have a matching snare. Seems like the first question tire kickers ask is "is there a matching snare". I'd say leaving it with the kit will help sell the whole thing to the right buyer.

But I know little about this stuff. I've been a terrible seller and usually lose money! I was hoping your 3-ply would sell quickly because I have one of my own I want to move, but apparently they may not be as desirable as I thought they were. Yours looks great. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. Good thoughts all around. I think I'll keep it together. I'm almost positive these were born together, though the config is not in any catalogs I've seen. Someone told me it's likely the music store who first sold it put the config together at the store. I love the snare. I'd really like to keep it for myself, but I originally thought it needed to stay with the kit.
