Gretsch Score Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Nice job on that kit Purdie.

That looks great.

Is that FT a 16"?

I worked on the snare a little bit this afternoon.

I got the rims pretty straight just by tweaking on them a little bit. :D

The wrap practically fell off the kick and the tom.

The shells are in good shape.

I bet finding a 20" Gretsch hoop will be tough too. LoLoLoLo

You're on your way to a very cool little players kit. Congratulations on the score. Don't know about the warpage on the snare. From the photos it looks like the head is just setting funky. But the other issues are completely workable. I found one in just as bad of condition and after a lot of elbow grease, scrounging for some missing parts and a clean rewrap and heads, I've got an amazing Round Badge kit for playing out with no heartburn on getting bumped around. As you probably know, finishing it off with a 14" RB floor tom will be no easy feat, though. A 16" orphan might be more reasonable. Keep us posted on the clean up.

Thanks for the response.

You're right about the floortom.

mac - The kit is a late 50's 3-ply (Brooklyn factory) shells. I found a late 50's 16"x16" 3-ply floor tom in tattered WMP, stripped it and wrapped it to match the rest of the drums. The FT is an orphan, but it completes the kit perfectly. Round Badge kits are the bomb, fix that one up and enjoy it.

LOL - Mine too! The only thing holding it on was the lugs and hardware. Every time I removed a lug, a chunk of wrap would fall off by itself. Easy sanding and clean-up/prep for wrap.

That's exactly how it went. LoLoLoLo

Real easy clean-up too! Here's a shot of the shells after some light sanding. Easiest strip-job I ever did on a set of drums. They must have used some crappy glue! Most of it stuck to the wrap, not the shells. Breeze to prep.

Good luck with yours. I'll be watching out to see what you do with them.

The ones I have are the exact opposite.

All the glue stayed on the shell and not the wrap.

Oh well, wish me luck with them. :D
