Gretsch has been around since the 1880`s, all drums were rope then, When they stopped would be a more interesting question.

I'm no Gretsch expert, but I think the Gretsch guys here will probably be able to date this by the round badge and snare strainer. I'm guessing that this is a WWII era drum. With the WWII restrictions on the use of metal parts, some drum makers reverted back to rope tension. I'd like to see if Matt from CT Pro Percussion chimes in here, as he's a nationally recognized expert on rope-tension drums.
