Do Gretsch edges typically have the gray paint on them? Mine do.

3 ply: occasionally a tiny bit spilling over in spots.

6 ply: almost always a little spilling over in spots. But if a whole edge is covered in paint, I'd be suspicious.

This one just came in the mail today and it has silver paint splashed on both bearing edges.......hmmmm.

But the seller owned it for 42 years and bought it off a friend that bought it new....that's what the ad on eBay said and the seller confirmed it again in a personal email tonight.

I haven't taken photos of the edges yet but here's the drum - a 69-70 SSB#1 (I say that from the info I've read regarding the tag) 8x12 Gretsch tom. The seller disclosed the fact that the reso hoop was missing and replaced with this flanged hoop.
