Man, I absolutely LOVE that kit, Kev. Stunner!
Gretsch Drums Renown 57 5-Piece Shell Pack with Throne
Sorry bad comparison Danelectro guitars where never considered junk, Entry level or affordable was their market price point, Nat Daniels was just inducted into the rocknroll hall of fame, his guitars and amps are some of the most collectible affordable Instruments, Jimmy Page used his on Stairway to Heaven, and countless other tunes, I own several in fact they are some of my favorites, they will go toe toe with $10,000 guitars their lipstick pickups are high prized.
I know this, but disagree with you. I was making custom guitars several years ago and worked on some original Danelectro guitars and made a few more 'mainstream' style guitars with the reissue lipstick tube pickups (I may even still have some of those pickups in my junk box). Although I agree they had a unique sound and 'vibe' they in no way compared with Gretch, Gibson, Fender and early epiphone guitars. Unique construction kept manufacturing costs low, yes.
that is why they are so highly prized today affordable even in today's standards well made, play easy, stay in tune, sound super , there are copies now that will set you back over $1500.00
I have to respectfully disagree with 'well made' (unless you are referring to the reissue models, of which I do not have first-hand experience).
You clearly love them, and that is great. Like my old Powertone snare drums that I bough years ago CHEAP and were my number 1 for years. It's about the sound at the end of the day, and value is what you are willing to pay for whatever it is. Please enjoy the guitars, but you will not sway my opinion of them I'm afraid.

Jim, sorry to disagree with you but this is very well discussed among guitar forums. Original real Danelectro's command serious dollars for one reason, They stay in tune and sound fantastic, you are entitled to your opinion, But I'm stating simple true facts, once again Nat Daniels was just inducted into the rocknroll hall of fame, so many pros use Dano's it's not even funny, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, I could name them all day, Danelectros place in Guitar history is solid. To a guitar player the requirements for it are to be playable are to hold it's tune, feel right to the player and the sound, that's it Dano's meet all those requirements very well. Go on ebay and look at completed sales of real Dano's first off they aren't many, Players hog them and don't sale them very often. here is one example why do they command such high prices then?, http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-VERY-CLEAN-KAY-SILVERTONE-HARMONY-DANELECTRO-AMP-N-CASE-2-PICKUP-GUITAR-/330811730055?pt=Guitar&hash=item4d05ea6887
