Gretsch COB snare value

Loading...

Hi everyone. I found a vintage Gretsch COB snare in a friends attic, I'd like to buy it from him but I'm not sure what a fair value is. The drum is completely disassembled...basically a box of parts and a shell. There is some minor pitting but it should clean up nicely. I think it's a SSB#1, I need to double check that. Any comments would be appreciated!

I would think anywhere from $150 to $250. Very nice clean ones go for near $300 plus.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Here is my COB showing the correct tone control. Mine is a 60's model but you get the picture. I sold a pair of my tone controls for less than $30. This is a great sounding snare once you get it cleaned up.

Good idea....it is missing parts. The fishtail butt plate is missing the small plate that clamps the snare chord (or strip). Anybody know where I can get one?
