Does anyone here know more about this drum than what's been advertised here? The seller won't accept questions.

Snap in key holder?

42 strand wires?

Looks like later,60's heavy die cast rims?

Something not right here...

It's getting up there. Why the "private" bid listings? When you go to the 'bids' it's all listed as Private????

I may have to jump into this..........

And I thought your new Lang Percussion Gladstone drum was going to be the last snare you'd ever buy. LoLoLoLo

Happy bidding if you go for it, Gary!

Once you become a member of this Forum there never is a "last snare."

That place is about 2 miles from where I work. If it's the same guy that was there 6 months ago, I know him fairly well. He's also a pretty knowledgeable drummer. I wish I would of seen it before it hit eBay.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

EDIT:

Sorry - I looked at the auction and I could swear I saw it was ended at $2750. I went back just now and see it's still going........

I think it's a pretty good deal - worth at least that. I'm surprised it didn't go for more being the 'real deal' so to speak.

I don't know much about these drums other than what I read online and picked up from some of the Gretsch historians. When dealing with Gretsch there seems to be a lot of exceptions. I mean to say .....you might find and original 50's Cadillac Green kit with chrome hardware when the catalogs say they only are offered in 24K Gold hardware. Some external parts may have not been plated in gold - the rail mount for instance. But you see some were gold plated. The paper tags showed up in 62 but I've heard people say they bought their drums in the 50's and the paper tags were there. Six ply drums replaced 3ply in the late 50's - most say 58 but even folks that worked in the Gretsch factory say 6ply showed up in 55 or so.

Just when you think you know something about the history of your Gretsch drum some new information shows that completely turns your head. That's half the fun of all this.........there's always new stuff to learn.

I'll admit my thinking cynical; but, anyone else think it's a bit fishy when a seller keep's bidder's privacy private? Not saying the snare's unworthy; yet ...
