Got to give a "shout out" for my 1st generation, player grade (micro sensitive strainer replaced with a Slingerland Rapid Strainer) 4160. I've had a few vintage brass snares, currently including a COB Ludwig Super 400, and I have to admit this baby is outstanding! I'm running an Evans G1 Level 360 batter, Evans Hazy 300 snare side and YAMAHA Steve Gadd snares on it and there is very little it can't handle. Kudos to Gretsch!

I would love a COB Gretsch snare. I have two wood units and run the same heads, but with OE throw and Puresound blasters and got it sounding very nice and lively, not boxy. A COB is my next quest, after I find a period walnut 12" tom. Then, I have to have a Floor Show, then a .........

Glad you like your Gretsch snare. They get a bum rap, sometimes.

The wood snares, especially the 3 ply models, get a bad rap. But this COB model is a real work horse. I'm generally not a fan of diecast hoops on a snare, but it's a combo that works to perfection here!
