I have a Gretsch snare Model #4157. Can anyone tell me the true depth of the shell, as well as did they have snare beds and die-cast rims? Also, is their anyway to decipher the serial numbers.

According to Gretsch's website....serial numbers are a rough guide to build date.....4 digit, early 60's.....5 digit mid 60's.....6 digit late 60's and beyond. Depth should be 5 1/2"....and snare beds are typical Gretsch.....deep. The drum should have die cast rims as well.....pics would help us a lot if you want more info.....
