As far as I'm concerned this is gretsch drums finest shell and the rocket lugs are my favorite gretsch lug they are built like a tank, Ron this is one fine drum sir!!Yes Sir

After changing heads to a Fiberskyn batter & Emperor Reso yesterday; tweaking and playing it for over an hour today, I would now rate this drum above my lovely 5.5 & 6.5 L&L Broadways, my '38 6.5 RK, and my '40 7" 'super' RK.

That's saying A LOT! Clapping Happy2 Ron

I think the Fiberskyn (or real calf, if you're so inclined) is key to getting a great sound out of a 3-ply Gretsch. I struggled with my 5.5x14 3-ply for 15 years before finally putting a Fiberskyn on top, and now she just sings. Yours is a beauty!

My 3 ply RB has become my most used snare by far. This is out of stable of a 3 ply WFL, Rogers Luxors, Classic Maple, vintage Supra, '20's brass Luddies. and a Zildjian/N&C....I am running it with a coated Ambo, and like it that way. All taste, I suppose. Maybe next head, I'll try a Fiberskin. Got one on my WFL, and it really suits that 3 ply, mahogany shell. You're right about the RK . Always wanted one. Found one I thought I really wanted, after blind A/B-ing them, passed on it.

From vintagemore2000

is the Interior clear or silver painted?

It'd gotten a gray, Rogers looking inside by the time I got it, so I don't know what it was originally. It was a real project drum. But I snagged it really cheap, so that was great. It was on Ebay, listed a snare drum, no name, etc..

Lucky find.

I'm impressed that you're getting a good sound out of your 3-ply with an Ambassador. I tried a few times and had no luck.

Now that I've got the Fiberskyn, my go-to snares are the 3-ply and the beautiful Acro that you sent me. Thanks again, by the way--I just love that snare.
