I bought this Gretsch kit about 5 months ago just now getting around to playing it, This is a thinking out loud review of Gretsch drum kits I have owned. From 1940,1950,1960,1970,1981 kits I've owned. This 1977 kit sound wise and hardware wise is awesome first the hardware is the monster double tom system. It is some what a pain at first to setup but once done it is as stable as the Empire state bldg. The chrome steel wrap on all the major mfg has been known as to cut down on the vibration of the wood shells, on this gretsch kit that is not a bad thing as it seems to focus the sound. I was lucky the original owner took good care of this wrap and is whom I bought this kit from. From the years of the Gretsch kits I've owned the 40's kit I loved, the 50's and 60's were ok mostly the hardware I didn't care for the toms mounts the most. now this 77 kit I have liked the best thus far then the 81 kit coming in 2nd, I play loud hard blues/rock. This kit is a good fit for my needs. This 1977 kit size wise in the catalog on page number 4 consist of a 14x24" bass, a 9x13" tom. 10x14" tom and a 16x18" floor tom, my kit has a 14x22" bass drum instead of the 24" cataloged drum.
