got some rogers holiday drums, need help

Loading...

hey guys, im new here and just got a rogers holiday drum set for FREE.

Back story: my aunt and uncle bought an old house to flip and re do. no one has been in this house for 15 years and in it was this drum set. i got it for free and didnt realize it was a vintage kit till i looked up the name at home. im not really a drummer, im more into bass/guitar. but lately i have been wanting a drum kit, so im going to try to fix this one up. I need help though, since im not a drummer, im a bit confused of some of the parts i need specially the snare. the tags say dayton so it's either a 67,68, or 69 right? im also not into restring it to original condition. so reproduction parts or generic ones that will fit will be fine. i just want to make it a players kit, but not have to drill new holes or anything.

here are some pics.

first the bass drum, this just needs the claws and a head, i have tunning keys. it also has a cool plaque saying it was custom built for john perry penn

now the tom:

this need the hoops and lugs, are there and lugs that i can use that arent the original?

next the snare:

its just the shell and one hoop, also the guy who had this put the bass drum lugs on it so there are extra holes drilled.

how does the tom mount? if i use the swivel arm, the rogers logo it facing forward, so did this kit use a tom stand?

thanks for the help

That's a cool kit you have there and will sound excellent restored. It's really only a bass and Tom though, as I have a horrible feeling the 'snare' is not a snare drum but was a valuable 14" floor Tom that some maniac cut down.

You'd have more luck finding a 16" floor than a 14" if you were to try find one. You could pick up a 60's brass shell powertone or dynasonic for that kit for not much that would be period correct and a good addition to the kit.

thats why the holes weren't symmetrical, it was a floor tom, mannnnnnn, and a valuable one? that sucks. so i guess i need to add a full snare to the list haha

Yeah, I think that's the case. Some of the resident Rogers experts might chime in and confirm. If it was a champagne glitter 14" floor Tom, they can sell around $1000 give or take as they are pretty rare.

Found this for sale on here, maybe he still had it?

Great score! I think it would be well worth getting BT lugs for the tom and the correct claws for the bass. The tom arm and cymbal arm for the bass could cost you $200-$300 for the pair so you might want to use a snare stand for the tom. Welcome to the VDF

If all the tags say dayton, and the int are flat grey, you have an early dayton kit, prob first 6 months of production 1967.Very desirable era for Rogers.

Shame about the Floor tom /snare debacle.

You could find claws that work easily.

Don't know if a cheaper generic lug would work on the tom,but it would be worth it to find the orig beavertails.you could get it up and running with aftermarket hoops and t rods pretty cheaply.I would set it up on a snare stand.

if the bass and tom have no x holes besides the one for the plaque that kit is collectible, and worth finding the correct claws, the good thing is that you have the original hoops with in lay and the t rods.

It would be worth it IMO to find a 16" floor and you would have an excellent vintage kit, still at a bargain.
