Goofy Dynasonic String Question Last viewed: 1 hour ago

From idrum4fun

I just purchased string from Ludwig that works great. As for the string breaking, it's possible that you have the strainer way too tight. When the Dynasonic is tuned correctly, there is very little tension on the string. Hope this helps.

Set up hasn't been the problem, crappy strings have.

I usually run the string over wax too.......

This is the way to go for string(wax). As a technician for AT&T,we use a hi- strengh wax string called '12-cord'. Its used to bind togather cable's in the CO's and out in the field. It was commonplace way befor zip-ties were invented. So next time you see or know of a telephone in town, ask him/her to cut you off a hunk of it.I can assure you IT WONT BREAK.

I don't know if you have ever seen this guide to the perfect and proper set up of the snares on a Dynasonic, but here it is. This is the most complete and definitive guide to get it right and it is the original Rogers guide to boot. Follow it to the letter and you will have the best sounding snare you ever imagined. Hope this helps!

I have the guide, jonnistix. I found that I was pretty much using these techniques already. It certainly is the best sounding snare drum I've ever owned. It's just that the strings I've found to this point have not been very stout for the guage needed to fit loosely through the frame holes. I'm going to go with Ploughman's tip and try the mini-blind cord. The snare's getting disassembled this weekend anyway for a good cleaning.

Thanks, everyone for a lot of good tips! I knew this forum would be a treasure trove of experience and advice. Great bunch of folks, here!

It was mentioned in an earlier post, but the mini-blind cord is the stuff that most closely resembles what Ludwig used. I got blinds for my childrens rooms and lo and behold, the extra cord was exactly what I had been searching for for some time.

Awesome! I'll give'm a try this weekend when I take it apart to clean it up.

Put the snare back together yesterday and yep!......the mini-blind cord seems to be the ticket. The stuff is pretty stout for its size with no stretch in it whatsoever. Slides nicely through the holes in the snare frame.

Thanks for all the feedback and advice! Awesome bunch of folks here!
