When I got this drum the original knobs for the 701 were missing and a bolt and a tension rod were in their place. I thought "where in the hell am I going to find these?" I ended up getting some knobs from a local vintage drum shop. The knobs I got were most likely for tone-controls. Well when I got home I found one in my own stash that matched one of the ones I picked up but the one I had was around 10" long and had very little thread on one end. To complicate matters the machined aluminum parts that these knobs would go to had an odd thread that din't seem to match anything.

I ended up taking both aluminum parts and both knobs to a machine shop and for $20 they cut both knobs down and gave them standard threads, the same as on tension rods. Then they re-threaded the aluminum parts to match the new rods. Now that I have it back together it almost looks like it's original.

The last step was to find a set of Puresounds that would fit this Camco version of the Rogers rail. Turns out that the shorter set of WFL wires are the only ones that will work (Puresound makes 2 models). Of course they have to be modified to work. For this I just lined up the holes from the previous modified set of wires and drilled the 4 holes necessary to attach the wires to the rail.

Here are some picks of the recent completed project. BTW I've never liked the sound of these super strainers but I may have found a solution. They alWAYs sound very ringy with no body or bottom IMO. Well just by chance I slapped a coated Vintage Emperor on top with a Diplomat on the snare side. I've never liked Diplomats on anything but for some reason it works on this drum. Now I wish I hadn't sold my Camco 99 Super :sad:
