Thin Shell,

 

The square shaped bracket attaches  to the shell of the drum and the rounded cover plate connects to it with the four screws. I have just received another square bracket (courtesy of DolFan54!) that has a thin dowel welded to the middle hole on that square bracket (there is a dowel broken off in the tube of the throw on my original part). It seems to be the same dowel that is visible on the throw in my picture.  So some progress is being made here.

It would be an imense help if someone had photos of a complete working strainer that I could compare these parts with. 

From what I can see, It looks as if the welded tube would have been under some strain if the snares were tensioned very tightly and it was probably the weak link in the overall design.
