George Way 16x14....Way...No Way? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Here's something I found listed on Ebay. Appears to be a 50's Leedy or Slingerland shell with Leedy lugs, but with a Geo. Way badge.

Could that be a SlingerLeedy era shell? The leg brackets and muffler (except for the knob) look like Slingerland stuff. And I'm half-blind, but that's a sticksaver hoop.

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

Yup, I noticed the hoop and leg brackets, too.

When did Slingerland start building drums for Leedy? I've heard but can't remember. They stopped in the late 60s right? Around '67?

I think the first catalog year for them was 1956.

George Way worked for Leedy and in 1956 he leased the old Leedy building in Elkhart and started making drums by 1957. He used Jasper 3 ply shells just like Leedy and his COB hoops were obviously were from the same source that produced the Leedy hoop as they were very similar.

It's my belief that he built this floor tom for a client to match a Leedy kit.

The hardware looks like mid-50s Slingerland stuff, so I believe you guys are helping make the puzzle pieces make sense.

Nice drum, by the way. I'm a sucker for blue!
