Geo Way Snare Find Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I picked up this Geo Way snare this past week when on vacation up north in Alpena MI. From what I found here (at VDF) this is one of his first snares from early 60's according to the badges section? Still going to go through the catalogues but wanted to share this with you all. Going to need some parts for this so Ill take it to the wanted section for that but feel free to PM if you have something. I did go to the waydrums.com just to get the low down on George himself. Any and all info is appreciated. Are the tension rods original? There are two that are different. Is the paint original inside? The edges look good and the heads float freely around but there is a wobble on both sides when laying on a flat surface. Does this mean the edges probably need to be recut? Thanks everyone!

Pretty drum and looks to be in nice shape.

The 6-lug drums often had wide snare beds to allow the head to seat reasonably well even though the lugs were a fair distance apart. Depending on how you are holding the drum when you are finding that wobble, it might be simply the way the drum was built (unless you are saying it is wobbling on both the batter and snare sides).

The only 6- lug snare drums I know of that didn't tend to have that wide snare bed are the Rogers Luxor models. Rogers idea of a snare bed was different than most once they got away from the flat bearing edges and used the 45 cut.

Enjoy the drum, and as someone said, play it and if it sounds good, it is good.

Hi Curtis

This past weekend I picked up a George Way snare also, it has I believe the first generation throw off as well as hoop clips, so possibly 1957-59 ?

Mine is mostly original, although a few of the lugs are lifting were the post comes out. From what I read it seem to be a problem with the earlier design.

Agree with JC - I LOVE vacation finds, and I've got a pretty good Midwestern track record! This summer is my only strike-out over the past several years. At least the wife was happy.

How difficult will finding parts be? Probably a bit costly too I bet? Anyone make new parts? I think I've seen new clips like these but not sure about the rim and throw off. Is the butt plate correct as well as the white interior?

Also I would never cut the edges without playing it in its current condition.
