Gene Krupa snare? Last viewed: 11 minutes ago

Loading...

I just picked up this 70's Slingerland snare the other day. It is cleaning up really nice. I think it is the Gene Krupa snare 6.5x14 chrome over brass. It was missing its butt piece and the round knob on the throwoff. I have located a butt for it from Blair. He has a whole throw he could sell to but if I can get just the knob first I prefer to do that. If anyone has a knob they would sell that would be great. A few pics below of what I have and of the snare not all the way put together yet.

thanks

Curtis

That's a good looking shell, Curtis !!

Chances are if you find a knob, it's not going to work anyhow.

It will be falling off, like the original one did.

A few folks have posted repair attempts for this, and I don't think any have been successful for long, as best I remember. I hope I'm wrong about that, but that is how I remember it.

Looking for a complete strainer, or ponying up $100 to Jim Petty for his guaranteed repair/repro might be your options here.

Hey Curtis. Is this going to be a collector drum or a players drum? That is an awesome drum you have there in the making. Good luck.

Very nice shell, looks to be cleaning up quite nicely!

I did see a complete zoomatic strainer on Ebay...bidding up to $22.50 with a little over 4 days left.

I am going to play the heck out of this thing. I would like to keep it original if possible. Excited to hear it altogether. I may just have to get the whole zoomatic piece from Blair.

Kev who is Jim Petty and what does he do with these?

Thanks everyone.

JP2 Creations is Jim' store.

He does wonderful, very close to exact reproductions of a lot of sought after parts.

He charges a premium price for his work, but it is excellent.

I may be way off, but didn't GK use wood snares? Or, (and perhaps) is it a signature series model. Not that versed in Slingerland, but I thought Gene used only wood (maybe that was earlier on?).

Anyway, sweet-looking shell. I'd love to have a vintage 6 1/2" deep, COB snare. Best of luck on your knob search.

Well I got a new zoomatic and butt today. Got them both on tonight. Just need to get the tension rods and a head for it tomorrow and I will have this puppy up and running. Any recommendations for heads?

Can't wait to see pics! For heads, I would defer to the experts on here.
