Fresh barn rescue with some history. Last viewed: 24 seconds ago

My new project. This is a 24" Leedy bass drum that came out of the

Mtoto Room at the John Ringling Hotel in Sarasota Fl. It was owned by

band leader and Ringling Brothers executive Rudy Bundy. There are pictures of it on stage at Mtoto. By the badge I am guessing 1949-50. The drum has lived the last few decades in a barn on Rudy's family farm in Ohio. The WMP wrap is

literally falling off and the hardware is very dirty and dingy. I have taken a few lugs off and they are cleaning up nicely. Pretty maple shell I guess I will refinish. All parts are present and it has 2 pretty good heads. The Mtoto room

was a real hot spot in the 40's. Lot's of stars visited there. They would also bring in circus acts in the winter when RB/B&B were in winter quarters. John Ringling North owned the place and sat in with the band on sax a good bit. I have seen pictures of him playing drums also. Hope I can find one of him playing this one. I have no idea how to value something like this. The shell, hoops, edges are all in good shape. Anyone who wants to put a value on it go ahead.

Here is a picture of this drum. Part of a WMP set.

I can not get my picture small enough for VDF to accept it.

Drives me nuts . I don't have that problem with any other forum.

Here is a link to the John Ringling Hotel Facebook page where I posted

an Mtoto pick. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=693363144031477&set=p.693363144031477&type=1&theater

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks, I do not know what the problem is.

VDF says my pics are too big and Some I am able to resize and get in but then they are very small photos. It's hell to be a geezer. Anyway, that is the set.

He had about a 10 year run there I think so probably some equipment changes in different pictures. The place was mega cool in the 40's and was the "Scene" on the gulf coast. The Facebook page I posted is a group connected to the old John Ringling Hotel. Interesting pictures.

I grew up as a hippie in the 60's and wouldn't trade that for anything but

the post WWII era was a swinging time. Folks were all dressed up and out to party. Musicians were respected and employed.
