Found a kit made on my birthday Last viewed: 3 hours ago

The Leedy Chicago "Blue badge" was the dying era of Leedy. The shells are Slingerland as are the hoops and t-rods. The only Leedy thing about them are the lugs. $250 is high. Could be a great sounding kit with the nice Slingy shells and cool Leedy lugs. $175.

Funny how so many drum companies are related. Pretty interesting history of the Leedy company.

Thanks!

You guys are funny. $250 is high for two great sounding 60's vintage drums? What planet are you on other than planet "greedy lowball"? Do you play drums or only buy low with hopes of selling high one day?s

"You know the drill, off less, much less... I've always liked BDP, but never owned a kit in that 'flavor'."----------really? The drill? You go around treating people like this?

"$250 is not a bad price, offer $150 because of the missing original parts."----Really? $250 is not a bad price, but offer almost HALF? If you put $100 into Ts and Rods for one side of the bass drum that makes the drums "complete" and only worth $250? Huh? Heads cost $100....so only worth $150 complete then, huh? Hmmmm. Mental note...don't do business with this guy.

Nevermind that someone I grew up with, one of my closest friends, someone I do drum/music related stuff with pretty much constantly is selling these drums (at a very fair price) because he ACTUALLY NEEDS THE MONEY...the point is it is really funny how people comment on here (in public to the vintage drum community no less) about a kit they are "really interested in picking up" because it was made on their birthday of all days...and then within a few posts they are talking about how its a good idea to "lowball" the guy for the drums and how they aren't that special....only worth $150 tops say the "experts" etc etc....

Talk about telling people what they want to hear!

If the drums are so crappy (only worth $150) then why do you want them? You could get a much nicer "Pearl Export" for only a hundred more or so.

Oh yeah...you want to flip them for profit. I forgot. Suddenly they become worth $300+ when you own them I bet.

I started this thread because I was interested in the drums from the year I was born. I thought they were cool looking drums but I dont know anything about Leedy drums so it was fair to ask if 250 was a good deal. I have purcahased very nice complete kits for less so that is why I thought the price was high, again, dont know anything about Leedy drums. It is my hobby to find and restore old drums. I keep most of them for myself to play. Dont be ****ed at me for low balling, I gave 50 bucks to a kid who was going to give me a kit, that happened twice. Why would I want to "flip" a very cool drum set with my year of birth stamped on it, or is that considered lame? My main concern here is finding a snare and floor tom to complete the set but I guess its not going to be so easy.

Not mad at you for not knowing. Its fair to ask for opinions. A floor will be tricky to find, but not impossible. To suggest that these two drums are only worth $150 or less is offensive. They are on par with a sound percussion kit huh?

Just saying...the way people talk in public about low balling on here youd think they were vintage drum pirates...and you definitely see they have zero respect for seller's knowledge on CL. If I was selling these and saw people talking like this about my reasonably priced drums I'd never do business with them again. That's for sure.

Here's hoping Chris doesn't sell them for $150 out of desperation. That's my 2 cents.

Well your two cents is very welcome. Just to make things clear, I never suggested any offers, all of the numbers like $150 have been advice from others. I know what you mean about low balling. People now for some reason like to " talk you down" on just about everthing and expect the price to be negotionable. I really try to just pay the people what they are asking to start with if its reasonable. Restoring drums is fairly new to me and I will ask advice from others, then decide myself what its worth to me. I think asking someone to drop thier price 100.00 is not very nice. If I wanted to pay less I would just ask if they could come down some, let them throw out a new number.

Hey man, I don't appreciate you slamin on me like that! Like I said $250 is not a bad price for those drums with a Rogers tom mount and aftermarket T's and claws. You can't tell me that you never offered anybody less than what they were asking, thats how it goes, start the bidding low! I am sorry your friend is down on his luck, things have not been great for me either! I had to get rid of my Slingy kit just to keep my head above water. I did not get what it was worth but I was glad to get what I got!

We live in free market.

You can offer whatever you want. The seller decides to "sell" or "hold". The buyer can never force a sale just make an offer. If the seller accepts an offer, a deal is made. If it weren't so, the good 'ol free enterprise system would be dead. There is no such thing as "low-balling".

So, a bit of reality has your shorts bunched up? We're talking about two drums--not a drum set. SlingerLeedy drums are not rare, but still not very commonly found in the color you need to flesh out a drum set with the two drums you already have. The tom mount has been changed and moved --that means some extra holes in the drums--most likely bass and tom. No matter that the tom mount is better than the original mount on the drum--it is still an alteration. Regardless of who the seller is--friend or stranger--$150 for these two drums in their present condition is more than fair. I have a fondness for SlingerLeedy drums--especially in that gorgeous BDP. This is how a full set with all correct hardware looks. Of all my vintage drum sets, this one is the set I'd keep if I had to sell off all of the other ones. The drums are from 1963 14x20-9x13-16x16--matching Shelly Manne snare. Your rants in this thread about low-ballers are offensive to people who have a good idea of what these drums are really worth in their current condition. You come across to me as taking a self-righteous and accusatory posture toward those of us who choose to be realistic.

Hey nice kit! That is what I would like to peice together. Mabye we can get this thread back to what it was intended for, vintage drums. I have learned so much about the Leedy/ slingerland drums the past couple days that these drums are becoming even more interesting. I just thought it was cool that the drums and I were made the same year! BTW, I appreciate everyones oppinions here.
