FNG in AZ Checking In.

Greetings, new drummer in Northern AZ. Just found this site. Bought a 6 piece Premier kit with road cases recently on CraigsList. Came with 13,14,16,18, 24 and a 14X8 as yet unidentified snare. The name on the cases is Martin Kickliter, who I googled and apparently he was (is?) a studio drummer and worked for Dolly Parton and other country stars. I'm a rocker, so I'm trying to beat the country ju-ju out of these drums. So far, seems to be working....

The Premiers are cool drums, well built, in Jolly Olde England, and for their age are holding up OK. They need new heads. I bought cymbals which pretty much cleaned me out for now....

Thanks in advance for any help I get from you guyz out there.

Regards, Hunter

Pix would be good. Just keep chanting the mantras Clem Burke & Keith Moon and you'll kick the country right out of them (almost a Jack Black song).

Hunter, I emailed you, but I guess that it did not make it. This kit has had the "ju-ju" beaten out of it since 1979. I bought it new while in Jr. College in FL. If you are interested, drop me a line and I will give you the history from 79 through 95 when I sold it.

Mr. Kickliter! I got your great, informative email and replied with a long one, but I'll bet your junk filter nailed it. THANX!!! So VERY cool to have the history of this kit!

Here's Mr. Kickliter's reply. I LOVE this set! Hunter B. IN AZ

Hello Hunter, it's about 11:30 and Jay Leno is on TV. My wife was

googling my name (why, is beyond me) and she say's "didn't you have a

Premier drum kit"? She say's "come check this out"...... and so I read

your posting on the Vintage drum guide. Yea, they are or were teal green.

There is a lot of history behind that kit...here's the short version

Bought new in 1979 in Pensacola Fl. (my first new kit, it was Black

then) where it had the **** kicked out of it while I gigged in biker bars

and played Zepplin, Kinks, Pink Floyd, etc.

It traveled to Nashville in 1981and went to school while it worked in

another cover band doing more pink floyd, Genesis, Judas Priest and

other sundry bands of the time. (Velvet Revolver was just on Leno, Iz very

Rocking)

From 84-86 it worked in an original band with a friend Robb Houston,

until it went out on the road and recorded with its first country act.

In 1987 in a show in Chicago, upstage lights were a little too close to

the kit and melted the covering on the floor tom a kick and the back

of my head and so it was recoverd in a new black.

In 1992 I was sick of black and with the help of an insanely talented

Sam Bacco the bearing edges were trued by hand and the teal covering (

actually call Peacock by Formica) was installed.

In 1993 it went out with Brother Phelps an offshoot band of the

Kentucky Headhunters. The original stands gave up the ghost and were replaced

with the DW hardware. (You might still have it) They were used to

record their first CD and was out on the road again touring with Reba,

Michael Montgomery, George Jones, etc.

In August of 1994 I put my sticks down and sold my drum kits. I don't

know where the Dolly Parton info came from......... Well, that's the

short version, drop me a line sometime, hope you enjoy the kit and the

update........

That is a pretty cool story! This forum comes up on so many searches and this web site is searched by 1000's of people, not to mention the sellers on Ebay using it for research.

It is cool and not that often the details about a set of drums is revealed like this.

Welcome MK! Thanks for filling in the details on these drums...
