Floor tom identification

Good afternoon -

I'm doing some work on a slingerland set I've had for 25 years. The 22 bass drum, 12 and 13 inch toms all have black/white niles badges with 110k, 180k and 61k serial no's, respectively. Looking at the dating chart, I'm pretty sure they are from the 70s (I may ask for a sanity check on that at some point now that I know VDF exists!)

The 16 inch floor tom looks to be a different story. No badge, and the wrap is is really bad shape (see pictures). They were all given to me at the same time, but I'm guessing not from the same set. Floor tom has always been more yellow in color, while the other drums still have a pretty good white marine pearl wrap.

The extra hoop reinforcement in the center of the shell doesn't look like any other slingerland I've seen either, which has me wondering exactly what the heck this is, but the hardware looks similar to other slingerlands i've looked up.

Would appreciate any thoughts - great to have stumbled on this forum today. Thanks.

Dongrant3!

It's because the floor tom is NOT Slingerland at all! Appears to be an MIJ stencil brand. The vertical grain tips it off immediately, followed by the lugs and legs/mounts. We have some guys that are quite MIJ savvy, and they may be able to tell you it's origin. WELCOME to the VDF by the way! :)

Thanks. I started to wonder if the badge had somehow fallen off when I moved recently, but the tom could have been something that was thrown in to fill out the set back then.

Others will know for sure, but those lugs resemble the late 60's Star second design lug #924. I also have a 60's Star drum that has an interior much like yours with the three re-rings.

+1 (Plus one)....there, software.....is that long enough?

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
