Here's a few pictures with the Brook Mays Rogers at it's first gig. I had an issue with one of the kick legs, it broke and would not hold the kick in place. No amount of duck tape was enough for this job, so I resorted to placing a rock in between the kick and board on edge of stage, problem solved. The kit sounded fantastic, as I knew it would and looks beautiful on stage. I swapped out the resonant side head with a Ludwig logo head. I hate ebony resonant heads and the port hole was cut very poorly. Anyway, here it is, great little gigging kit.
First Gig
Rock solid fix there Mark. Nice looking kit. How did you like the sound and feel of it that day?

Well, I am a rock drummer!LoLoLoLo
The kit sounded great. They are well built drums, nothing like the crap Yamaha is putting out. I owned one a few years ago, so I new it was worth buying. It's going to be my go to kit for these smaller venues.
Again, what is the scoop on these Brooks Mays drums. What time period are the from?
Interesting that the tom is 9x12 and bass 16x20.
On this general thread about Brooks Mays and Rogers manufacturing after CBS, another sort of variant was the Drew Drums that had Rogers lugs on them. I believe Al Drew's Music had purchased all the outstanding inventory, having been a major Rogers dealer, and built some of their own drums using Rogers hardware.
Brook Mays Music store was out of Dallas, I believe they had several stores around the country. They were distributed exclusively by Brook Mays and have all maple shells, the beavertail lugs and script badge are identical to the originals, nice solid hardware and the finishes are as good as any. Like I said, these are well built drums. I remember seeing a few kits in their store here in San Antonio around 2002, they offered a laquer silver sparkle kit that was absolutely gorgeous. They originally sold for around $600. Brook Mays was sued by First Act Music for slander and wound up having to pay millions. They filed bankruptcy and somewhere along the line Yamaha picked up the rights to the Rogers name, then the quality went down the Toilet. From I understand, there are not a lot of these particular kits out there, so they may eventually be very sought after drums. If you ever come across one, buy it, you will not be disappointed.
Thanks for that explanation Johnny. Enjoy the set and maybe it's one to hold onto???? If you don't, you gotta give Ploughman a shot at it. ;)

Ya, I told him if I decide to sell or trade, he'd have first shot. But, it's a great kit to gig with and I can leave my WFL in the rehearsal room.
