Like with everything, there is a sensible way and an ignorant way to handle certain things. For instance...shrinking forrest are something to think about when your #1 product is made of wood. It would stand to reason that replenishing your resource would be a top priority. Then again, I am not someone who follows up on that to see if they already are (or aren't) doing that. To me, it simply makes sense. Planting more trees of the species you most would like to use would probably eliminate it from the endangered list and give your company a hefty stock pile of available wood. I know the lumber yard that built our current house replenishes. Granted it turns forrests into farms and kills eco systems, but it is a step. Really, anything taken that's a renewable resource should be replaced at a rate equal to or greater than the rate at which it is removed...or else it becomes a non-renewable resource very quick. Works cited...fourth grade.
Also, being as I am on a boat load of forums, keeping politics out is an ongoing job. I really do try to keep politics out of my rants, however ****ing people off can be a side effect of speaking my honest opinion. Hopefully that wasn't the case in one of my other recent posts on a different thread. However, nobody should ever feel dogged on or belittled due to their political affiliation no matter the party or ideals (no matter how obscure thay may seem to you).
Poitical affiliation aside, I feel it is a pretty stupid piece of tax dollars gone. It would make more sense to me to make the companies that use said pieces of wood responsable by penalty for the replacement of said trees. However I have it under good authority that some companies already are, and they found it more cost effective to simply pay the fine rather than replace the resource. Likewise...locally there is a casino boat that is docked on public property. They used to travel into federal waters to gamble, but they found it was more cost effective to stay docked 24-7 and pay the fine. Apparently a slap on the wrist costs less than you could potentially make with a boat load of broke people. Hmm...imagine that? Maybe that fee should double? Triple? Nah...that's just common sense.
