Evans 360 for big shells

I've heard it said that Evans 360 heads might fit oversized vintage drums better than a standard ambassador. It's for my 40s Krupa model snare, At the moment it's got the Aquarian American vintage on both sides obviously these fit well but am wanting in the near future to swap out the batter head for an Evans g1. I will probably try it anyway. As much as I love the a.v. I want to go back to something a bit livelier. Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks for any replies in advance.Cool Dude the ambassador it had on last time was a very tight fit.

I have 360 heads on my 1950's Radio King. I use the 14" St Dry top, and a clear Evans snare side ( the 200 I think ) Drum sounds fantastic, and I've never had any seating issues with the heads. I'd say this is one of my favorite snare head combinations, really makes it sing. Very articulate, durable, lively, crisp. All the things you want in a snare drum head. Then again they were designed solely for snare drums.

I have a 1994 Slingerland HSS kit and Remo heads just won't fit the bare shells. Forget about adding a wrap, unless you cut the top/bottom down by 1/4". However, the Level 360 heads fit great, even with wrapped shells!

The 360's are slightly larger than Evan's other heads. I've used them on the last three vintage kits I've restored including a late 50's Gretsch kit, a 1935 W&A kit and a 59' Ludwig transition badge kit, all 'older drums' that usually have fit problems with modern heads. The 360's worked fine on all of them for me.

Too many great drums to list here!

Just an update. I know this is an old subject, but the RK snare now has a g1 on, and sounds great- lushExcited it was still a little bit tight I did have to push down a bit, but trying to think back nowhere near as tight as an ambassador, I have to state nowhere near. So, apart from a couple of the old streamline lugs sadly starting to bind a bit, I'd say these heads are great. I realise all drums are going to vary.
