Elementary school band drum. Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Just recently found this picture from the fifth grade.

Of all of the drums I've played, it was the first. Both my brother and I learned on it. I really wish I had this drum. It was paired with a 28" bass drum in the same finish(with calf heads no less), a speed king jr. Pedal and hi-hat to make a set.

Any ventures as to what exactly it is? Year?

Looks like a six-lug 6 inch Pioneer, trans badge no less....only made for a few years with that badge.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

backbeatkeeper is correct. That badge was only used from mid 1958 until early 1960.

I know the interior was mahogany and it sure looks to be nickel over brass. There was a chrome snare used my sixth grade year, but no pics of it, not sure what happened to this one.

The NSSD stands for North Sacramento School District. Which merged with Grant Union District to form Twin Rivers a few years back, with that most music programs in the elementary schools were cut.

One woman, Mrs.forrester drove around to each school and taught, coronet, trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet, flute and drums. This was around 1988. Our instruments were from the late 50's early 60's. if I hadn't picked up playing drums, I don't know what would have become of me.

Even though we were playing songs like the Mickey Mouse Club song, the theme from M*A*S*H, hill street blues, Hava Nagila (dick dale surf style) and the theme from the pink panther, it's the only time I felt like a big band drummer, 25 kids locked in on MY time.
