Anyone have a sound sample or recorded track with a Dynasonic in it? I'm curious as to what songs I have heard in the past using a brass dyna in it. The whole COB/NOB/etc is new to me so I'd like to educate myself on the sounds!
Dynasonic Sound Sample?
1965 Ludwig Downbeat 13/16/20 Turquoise Sparkle (rewrap)
1967 Ludwig Club Date 13/20 w/16" downbeat FT in Blue Oyster Pearl
1979/80 Ludwig Classic 13/14/24 Wine Red
1980 Yamaha Rec. Cust. 12/13/16/22 Cherry Red
...plus an ever-growing snare farm... Luddy/Ayotte/Slinger/Pearl/etc.

Interesting query!... but the small "problem" with your request is the time lag between when the Dynasonic was popular, and today... plus... WHOM exactly was known to have recorded with it. That said...
I own/play four Rogers Dynasonics with my 1967 WMP wood model being my main snare drum. I gig 99.9% of the time on that drum. I have two COB 7 line early Dynasonics, but almost never gig them. Compared to the wood model they sound a bit "brash"... not bad mind you, but lacking that warmth. Course this is ALL completely subjective to personal opinion. Soooo....
If you would like to hear some EXCELLENT examples of a Rogers wood Dynasonic, I would suggest: "The Sounds of '66"... Sammy Davis Jr. LIVE at the Sands in 1966 backed by the Buddy Rich Big Band. Buddy is positively smokin' on this performance... ( recorded over two nights ) ... it's all LIVE... and you're listening to his Rogers BR Celebrity set with a wood Rogers Dynasonic. The sound is unmistakable... as are BR's chops. Indeed! Next...
Buddy Rich "Swingin' New Big Band" as this entire album was again recorded LIVE, this time at "The Chez" in 1966. This is most probably the same drum set/snare he was playing for the Sammy date... the subtle differences will be in the "room sound" and general make up of the venue. Still... the Rogers wood Dynasonic with Buddy at the controls. BOTH are impressive. :-D
Buddy was known to have played the 7 line COB Dynasonic here and there while with Harry James... ( interestingly I just had this conversation with a guy on the BR board! ) ... and I am looking for evidence of that both aurally and visually. I do have in my personal BR collection a pic of Buddy behind his Rogers with the 7 line COB snare drum in place. I have dated this picture to 1964... right in the middle of his Harry James tenure, although everything I have on either film or disc with Harry James shows Buddy playing the WMP wood model. Lastly...
It has been said that the drummer for the James Gang... ( remember them?! ) ... played a Rogers COB Dynasonic on all their recordings. If that is indeed the case, find a recording of "Funk 49" by the James Gang and have a listen. That "could be" a Rogers COB Dynasonic. Great tune regardless!

Hey Christophonic!...
Yes... most certainly a wood DYNAsonic. Buddy and Louie both were endorsers with Rogers at the same time for a period. Now I love LB!... met him in 1975... but Buddy... there isn't any other, Buddy is Buddy!
Vintagemore2000!...
Will you quit calling it a DYNO... you're making me crazy and Joe Thompson is spinning in his grave!! LOL!! If you must abbreviate, it's DYNA. A DYNO is used to measure the force/power of torque... not a snare drum! :-D

Yeah, I've heard that Buddy was pretty rough to deal with. His drumming was unbelievable. I wish I could have seen him play in person.

Chris!...
I saw Buddy five times between 1973 and 1978... met with him one on one in '73 and had an interesting chat. ( great story by the way! ) Anyway...
Oh what the heck... Here ya go: Buddy with Harry James in 1964 blazing on his wood Dynasonic. Nothing more to say! :-D
