Dynasonic question

Loading...

All of the Rogers threads lately made me want a Dynasonic.

I looked around and settled on a early 70s 5" drum.

I cleaned it up, put on new heads, and followed Tommy Ps

Set up instructions to the letter. It sounds fantastic and

The band loves it.

Now I want a 6.5. Is there much difference in the way

The big R drums sound compared to the older ones?

Also the brass ones without the chrome compared to the COB.

Thanks

Ludwig26: glad you like your 70's Dyna! I used Tommy P's set-up instructions on my '67 COB Dyna and it sounds terrific! As to your question, and sound difference of the Big R Dynas and brass vs COB, perhaps someone else will comment. History shows that overall quality of Rogers drums declined after they were sold to Island Music in 1984. If you decide on a Big R Dyna, it should have Rogers U.S.A.with serial number on the badge. This will at least ensure the quality is good. If you really want to compare your 5" drum to another Dyna, try to find a 6.5 close to the same year. Good luck!

Some Dynas in the early 80's do not have serial numbers, as long as it has U.S.A on the badge it is an American made Rogers. Stay away from drums with this Badge.

Thanks for the replies. The one I have is a script badge,

Probably 74 according to what I've read on here and going by the serial number.

The 6.5 I got my eye on is just brass with no chrome and is a USA big R.

Ludwig: Rillow is right. There was a brief period where Rogers USA made drums with no serial #. The brass Big R 6.5 sounds nice. There is a thread on VDF where guys talk about their love for all-brass snares. Check it out.

No Serial Number USA badge 1980-81.

Dynasonics of that vintage would have rivet top knobs on throw off and dampener.
