Not sure. That's the question I posed to Ploughman who I'm sure knows. I also asked him when Rogers stopped using the black tensioning elastic bands on the snare frame. Let's see what the expert says.

A Dyna-Sonic cant choke.

Unless of course, one uses a screwdriver to tighten the snare tension screw, and cranked up the throw off so much a person has to use an extension on the engaging lever in order to engage the throw off to the ON position. Then, it will choke. But if done right, it will never choke.

I own two 1996 Supersensitives, a 6.5 Ludalloy Chrome, and a Black Beauty five incher. Good drums. No complaints. But I prefer a Dyna-Sonic over them both.

On the guard, I believe (as I am not sure) but I believe..... that happened around the move to Fullerton. In 73 the "Big R" hoop came into use.

Elastic Bands were discontinued later Dayton period... I think. I remember Bruce Felter posting about that on the Rogers forum the year before he passed away. I will see if I can find that.

Here are some pictures of my 1966 Dynasonic, SN 6948. All original, except for heads. Still has the original bands on the rail and original snare frame string! I did remove the black elastic strips, as they were very frayed and stretched. The lower hoop has the "folded" gates. I purchased the drum for the original owner and have no reason to believe that the hoop was changed.

I have 3689 and its twisted. I got 10407 from Kelly Smith, and I am pretty sure its twisted too. I will have to open a bunch of cases and find that drum.

Hi Wayne! Thanks for the nice comments on my Dyna! I really got lucky with this one. As we all know, there are just too many out there that have been abused, yet the seller will say it's in "excellent" condition.

Late 65 to early 66 is the change over from twisted to folded. Although with any random sampling of Rogers, you can find a mix on the backside, for a few hundred drums or so.
