Drum Sets in the Film Jersey Boys

Loading...

I had the opportunity to watch the film Jersey Boys on a flight back to the US late last week. Quite a few vintage sets on display.

Of interest to me, in particular, is one Rogers red sparkle set with two separate Swivomatic mounts and arms on the bass. The layout was the same as one of the basses of our member Wayne Brown's twin bass kit, and I believe the first Rogers bass Wayne purchased.

In detail, I noticed that the mounted tom on the drummer's right hand did not have the accessories laid out for a right-hand drum, as you couldn't see a Rogers script or tone control, but the bass had Swivomatic mounts on each side up between the lugs.

Fun movie if you can relate to the times of the Four Seasons, and again, quite a few vintage sets on display. Also, the opening of the tune Walk Like a Man was part of a studio scene, where the single stroke 16th note roll is moved from the snare to the ride tom and back then closed with a bass drop. Such a classic intro.

Product placement to rewrite history? Sure....why not? The hell with authenticity. Camco drums in that scene? More period correct. But, there's no one who will pay for product placement of a defunct brand. No company logo on the front head? That would have been too easy, wouldn't it?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Hey, Dan,

Sorry if I'm a bit off topic. I saw the movie and thought it was okay. Lots of cool music dating back to a simpler time. I grew up in the era. I'm not sure but, I don't think that The Four Seasons ever had a permanent drummer as a member of the group. I may be wrong like I've been a million times before though. I believe the group relied heavily upon good studio musicians to tackle the job. I don't know who they were but, I do know that they did what was required with great skill. I'm sure there are many members who can fill us in with details. Thanks. Just curious.
