Drum ID help: Leedy or ?? Last viewed: 17 hours ago

I'd guess that since that 3pt was from England and on an English drum then it wouldn't be marked. Just like the Slingerland 3pts weren't marked Made in USA. No need if it was made there...

From cooper

Thanks! Apparently, not all of the three point strainers were stamped on the back. The one on the Carlton drum in the photo has no markings. It does have a solid shell but I think it's made from some other wood than maple. Beech or oak, maybe?

Good observation, I agree about it not being maple. It is fairly light.., being European, Beech would make a lot more sense. The grain is more open than maple.

You are very welcome! I do like vintage drum puzzles. That is why I was so obsessed with the early Rogers that was undocumented...untill I release what I've learned. Still a few "blanks" left for my work to be released. Almost there!

Glad there are more experienced folk like Mr. Cooper to help tell us what your drum really was.

I find that sticker interesting. I've never heard of a Bill's drum shop in Chicago. The address would put it in the vicinity of Franks Drum Shop on Wabash. Bill Crowden had his drum shop around there so I'm guessing this must have been the original name for his shop, but when I was there it was simply "Drums Ltd" with no "Bill's". I believe he opened his store around 1963 so that sticker must date to right around then (assuming that it is from his store).

I always enjoy adding my "two cents" when I can!

The finish on the green drum in the photo is called "Greenwood Pearl".

If this drum (and my green drum) are indeed Carlton (still not 100% certain), it's odd that an American music store, especially one in Chicago, would carry a British brand. Perhaps they took it in on trade.
