I had spotted a snare I wanted to buy last week, (On Criags list out of state) 60's sling WMP solid maple shell, guy wanted $400, I said I would buy it, but when he said the badge was coming up at one end I ask for a pic or two, I gave him me e mail address, the next day, I saw the pics did not come in since they were too large, so I called him and left a message asking to resize them and send to another email address. I waited a day, nothing, I called and left several messages, he never picked up the phone, yesterday, he sends me a message and says he sold it to someone else> >>I'm done buyuing gear now till the Chicago Drum show, at least, I will be able to talk people face to face, touch and hold the drums, play them before I buy... I was really ****ed.
Done buying gear...

We all say that we're not buying any more stuff.
The lack of personal, face-to-face communication opens the door for douchieness.
I have decided I will NEVER even give an ad a second look if there isn't a phone number on the ad. I just figure I will be in for bitter disappointment like I have been in the past.
The exception is on here, as we all see each other on this forum (unless we want to hide in shame). It's not that I wouldn't welcome a phone conversation, but I don't feel one is necessary.
Dead dogs like rusty fire hydrants!!!

Buying stuff on CL can be a pain. You have to kiss a lot of frogs sometimes. I hate it when someone posts a price and when you get there the price has gone up because "someone" called and bid this or that...
One of the "on-going" problems with Craigslists deals is that Craigslists attempts to "scare" people into ONLY dealing locally. And they succeed in doing that with a LOT of people.
That might be PART of the reason this guy backed out on a "out-of-state" deal. He got a "local" offer that was less of a hassle and obviously more of a sure thing (from his point of view).
IMO, Craigslist is WRONG for "scaring" people like they do. There are several "secure" ways of doing business "long distance," even for "part-time" sellers, and Craigslist ought to recognize that. Of course, it's not anything like eBay as Craigslist doesn't get a "cut" out of the sales.
They warn about the dangers/possibilities of getting "scammed" with non-local deals but don't seem to concerned about what kind of "crazy" might show up at your door if you've listed something with them and have someone coming to take a look. I'm more concerned about that than I am getting scammed....
Just my two abe's...

I slightly disagree, Bill. The second ammendment is the great equalizer for any CL "crazies". I always meet them at a gas station and I always pack heat to the meeting. It could be July and I am wearing a light jacket to those deals....... You still get to see the stuff, pay for it without risking some computer hack emptying your account, and take the stuff home with you. I would take that deal 10 times out of 10 rather than shipping some random person the money and hoping for the best.
have a wonderful evening

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
I had a couple guys email me the other night after my ePay auctions ended and one wanted to buy my Luddy second stage throw-off piece. Another guy emails me about it and says that if I just accept his 10 dollars plus the 2 dollars shipping in a regular envelpoe, that will be fine right? I was like, "Who is this guy?" He emailed me back and said I guess you accepted my offer but I need to know right away. I just emailed him back and told him I had sold it. It wasn't a lie. I sold it to a guy in Italy. The guy came across as such a douche that I sold it to the guy in Italy. People really don't understand. I am new to all this stuff so I guess I have a lot to learn but people really need to respect one another.
