Does this sound like a scam?

Well...I wouldn't have to walk a mile in some guy from Poland's shoes....I live an hour away from the Zildjian plant and could get them direct if I wanted to (I have good connections :D) So I would have no need to bother someone from another country to get them (if in fact I was actually trying to get them and not scam someone)

Maybe I'm just overly-cautious about things like this. Mom always told me if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. 9 times out of 10 she was right!

Good luck Gary, with whatever you decide to do on this subject. I hope it does work the way its supposed to for you and not be a scam, as that would be a real shame after all is said and done.

Just my :2Cents: Show your wife all the hassels you are going thru to sell drum items before your shell pack arrives. She'll probably give you a reprieve on time limits to sell, hell she might even let you keep the cymbals to use. he,he. I know not funny.

I'm actually more with my wife on this.....we have lots of other money commitments and the drums are not necessary. Yes - I'd like to keep the cymbals too but I have about 20 now I think and that's more than enough to "bash" around on.

As far as this being a "scam" - it may be just that. But if I get the money from WU before I even send the cymbals off.....I don't see how I can lose. In fact if I was a "scammer" myself I could just keep Maciek's money and NOT send him the cymbals.

He sure is a trusting soul to send that much cash to someone in another country that he doesn't even know.

go with the WU set up where you get CASH from the WU office before you send...

Yes - it does sound like he's too trusting and this deal may never even get started....or go any further. But if it does - it will be good for me = I get my money, good for the buyer...he will definately get the cymbals that he wants...baring they get lost/stollen etc along the way after I ship them. So all I have to do now is wait until he's back in town (Warsaw) on Friday and he answers my email containing total charges...shipping/insurance plus the $790 CDN.....we'll see.

And Blair....I'm with you - Western Union is totally the way to go for me. There will be no charges at my end if the money is in Canadian Funds....if not, I will refuse to take the cash......I've lost nothing because I have my cymbals and the only way I'm ever going to ship them to the buyer is if I get the Postage & Insurance plus my full asking price in CDN funds. The shipping to Poland is $127 CDN plus $10 or so insurance for $790. I might even ask for more insurance because the cymbals would be more than that to replace.

The insurance is cheap $1.50/$100 to $1,000. The postage is for surface....goes by boat and they wait until the boat is full before sailing so it can be 8 weeks or more. The next rate is 7-10 days and it's over $300.

Wow! I got three emails from Maciek in the last 24hrs and he's pretty psyched about the cymbals. I can hardly believe he is so trusting. That is so good to find this level of trust in this day and age. It looks like he will be sending me almost $1,000 via WU tomorrow to have me ship the three cymbals to him. I'm really looking forward to it...not just for the money. I hope he is totally happy with the cymbals - he sounds like a really nice person. It would be nice if we struck up a friendship over this.

My last few emails I sent (today) to him I told him I once worked as a Canadian Federal Fisheries Rep. on a Polish Factory Trawller when they fished in Canadian waters. It turned out that he knows all about that and he used to travel on a ship with his dad. I've sent photos of my drums and some bottles of Polish beer I saved - since 1990 haha.

You always hear about money scams and you have to be careful. But, I'll tell you .....Maciek is one trusting fellow and I would count myself lucky to be called his friend from what I see in his emails. Just saying....
