Hell even at practice the bass player booms the bass right at me and all I hear is a constant BUZZ/DRONE.He turns it down when I ask,and some how its back up in a few seconds. I am looking for some earplugs that dont look bright orange or some other weird color.We are playing at a dinner club weds nite and I know it is going to be loud,very loud! V

"loud, very loud!" at a dinner club? That must be a monster sized room! I can't stand wearing earplugs (except when my girlfriend snores) but, find that a good monitor is a must for me while playing a live gig. Earphones are used of course while recording.What do your other band-mates feel about the thundering bass? Personally, if everything is not balanced, the songs are distorted and sound out of balance. Naw, they sound like crap! I like rock'n'roll to have volume but, too much is overkill.

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

I always wear plugs- when practicing as well.

Only at acoustic gigs would I not wear them.

My first gigging experience involved having a conversation with two older gentlemen who regretted NOT wearing earplugs for the past 20-30 years. Now they are paying for it with hearing loss and ringing ears. I took that to heart and have always worn earplugs during gigs and gun range headphones while shedding. I want to still be able to enjoy music when I'm 55...

I always wear hearing protection. Have been for 30 years. I don't think anyone really enjoys insanely loud music!

Yes, a couple of times. Once was at a Don Rickles show and then more recently I was at a venue and The Tragically Hip took the stage . Boy was I glad for them then. You can buy designer models now; Justin Bieber model, Celine Dion model, Kenny G etc.

I realize how stupid what I am about to say is, but I'll go deaf before I put anything in my ears.

I get reprimanded for this all the time of course. My response?

Another option to regular plugs would be something like this, you take a mold, ship it off and get your cusotm set in the mail: http://www.aegisound.com/products/product_detail.php?p=2&catID=1

I believe there are also perscription filters vs just plugs. They filter out the super high frequencies and let a more pure sound through. Cost a lot though, but probably less than a cymbal. :)

The hearing loss I'm more or less resigned to. The part that I have a problem with is tinnitus. I have a wonderful incessant, screeching in my head at all times. I've heard of people eating bullets after having bad tinnitus for years!
