Just to advise that 2manydrums, etc is still up to his old tricks, I was caught out sourcing 12" COB hoops x 2 through the WTB forum, all PM's confirming verification of product etc, money was deposited , goods arrived, 13" hoops supplied, apart from an acceptance that he sent the incorrect product, no actual response to my PM's or emails since.

As my first time transaction on VDF I feel betrayed and obviously out of pocket.

I am located Down Under so the chance of onselling these hoops locally is not really an option as their is not a market for these items, hence my search OS to source the product in the first place.

My observation of this thread came too late.

I got taken by him to the tune of $50. In the WTB I asked for a tom mount for my '65 Super Classics. He sent me some kind of MIJ rail parts. I sent the wrong parts back to him with the understanding that I get a refund. That's the last I've heard from him. Live and learn.

I just did a transaction with Tom in the last month. I didn't have any problems, though it was far from "clean".

I paid him via Paypal, and I also won something of his on ebay just as a coincidence. He also did not have one of the parts that I needed (that he originally said he did), so I asked if he could refund me an appropriate amount for the missing part and for the ebay shipping charge (since he would be sending everything together anyway). He did that within a day or two.

He originally told me that everything was going out on a certain day. I waited nearly two weeks and hadn't received anything, so I contacted him again. And again. Finally on the third try (while giving him a brief lecture on forum members being cool and need to stick together, I held up my end of the bargain, it's time for you to do the same, didn't want to feel taken by a fellow forum member etc. etc.) he responded saying it would go out that day, and then he sent me the tracking number the following day. I received everything yesterday and all was good.

I always get nervous when someone doesn't communicate or respond back after they receive payment (seriously, how hard is it to type a quick PM or email to give a status update? How long does it take? 30 seconds?). My point is, if they don't respond back or give you any kind of status updates then they are usually avoiding you for a reason. This transaction was for $185 total (for multiple parts) so I was understandably worried for a while, but it worked out in the end.

I would say use caution when dealing with Tom.

I think you got lucky because you had ebay and paypal on your side. Where he gets people is on sites like VDF where you have no recourse for him screwing you over. He burned me a while back...along with many others.

It's stories like this that cause me to never buy anything and pay via paypal Gift. I'll sometimes pay the seller's fees or split the fee. Protection from deadbeats is worth a few bucks.

I had been looking for a very obscure tom mount and brackets for a kit I'm restoring and it didn't look like I was going to be successful. I got an e-mail on the weekend from 2manydrums saying " I found the parts you are looking for finally" I remembered messaging him a month or so ago and got a reply that he thought he might have one but he would have to do some digging. I asked that he send me a pic so I could make sure it was the right part. I got the pics within a half hour and sure enough it was the right part AND in great shape! We agreed on a price and I Paypaled him. The next morning I went through my usual routine of logging on to VDF and just happened to see this thread. My heart dropped. It was literally 10 hours after we did the deal. I thought about it and decided to drop him an email and ask when it was going out for delivery and could he give me a tracking# I got a response back saying "Going out today, will get you a tracking #" Needless to say after reading this thread, I was reluctant. Got home from work at 5:00 Mon. checked my email and there was an email from him with the tracking#. Package arrived today (priority mail) I'm not saying others didn't have problems but I felt compelled to at least share my experience. If I had not read this thread and this deal happened on eBay my feedback would be very positive. Rich.
