Greetings,
I have some Dewey flat base cymbal stands and a flat base snare stand. They look to be nickel or nickel silver based on their patina and color.
The cymbal stands are very similar to the Ludwig 1400 Model and are constructed nearly identically, but the tripod section and the middle section are slightly bigger in diameter on the Dewey (you can't mix and match the tubes-the Dewey middle section is too big to fit into the Ludwig). I'm guessing the Dewey tripod section is 7/8" tubing, and the middle section is 3/4", whereas the Ludwig the tripod section is 3/4" and the middle section is 5/8". The top sections are the same on both: 3/8". The Ludwig top section is a solid rod but the Dewey top section is hollow. The tilters are different on the Dewey as well (not geared and not as robust). The wing screws for both the Dewey and Ludwig are standard SAE 1/4" x 20 threading. The Dewey snare stand is also virtually identical to the Ludwig flat base model. The only real difference is the basket has white/beige rubber guards on the arms and the basket tilter is gearless.
I am guessing that the Dewey stands were made in the USA (because the snare stand says "Dewey USA") and by the fact that they use standard 1/4" threading. I've seen a Dewey snare drum and the other piece of Dewey hardware I have seen is a throne. Did they make any other hardware under the Dewey name? I have never seen a Dewey pedal or Hi-Hat stand.
I know that Walberg & Auge used to make hardware for Gretsch (and possibly others) at some point. Do you think that Dewey was possibly made by Walberg & Auge?
Thanks for any info you might be able to provide!
