Hey Marc,

It is a cool looking kit. Luckily there are no extra holes, it would be cooler if it had the original rims and wrap. Sound wise, I am sure it sounds great.

$1,500.00 bucks that's alot of cash. I guess if you can afford it. I think I would buy that over a new kit for the same price. That kit will turn heads.

Ok, what we have here is not your typical vintage kit, purists should not go any further. What I do have here is a very cool, incredible sounding, completely modernized set of vintage Slingerlands. I've owned this set since the early 90's and purchased it from the original owner. The drums are in exceptional condition and have the most incredible warm vintage sound. I had left the kit in it's original form for several years and used them for special gigs only. Since I just can't leave anything alone and I love everything there is about drums, I did what I did....The kit is made up of a 14"x26" kick, 9"x13" rack tom, a 16"x16" floor tom and a 7 1/4"x 14" single ply Radio King snare. The drums are finished in red and white pearl and fitted with wood hoops. I do have all of the original hoops and clips, along with the original snare strainer. I also have the original hardware which includes 2 cymbal stands, hihat, kick pedal and snare stand. These items are all included in this auction. These drums are not "your dad's old set of drums" but a very cool kit unlike any others. I have had more comments from sound engineers on the tone and warm sound than any of my other kits. I hate to part with them, but I have come to the time in my life that I just don't need 16 drum kits and some have got to go.

Only you can determine what price is right for you. I would consider that the kit is revamped so the "historical" or vintage value is decreased. Also this may be a pieced together kit, which plays towards the previous statement.

It will come down to the simple fact of the shells really being of Slingerland origin, the current condition of the shells, and the sound quality of the kit.

Is this kit local to you? If it's not you will never know what that quality is prior to purchasing (this is the typical online purchase gamble as even sound clips can be of dubious origin).

If it sounds great but the kit is actually a set of tweaked CB700 or Maxwin shells would the purchase offer value? Would you feel taken advantage of...

That's what should shape your offer price. If he can't substantiate or prove they are Slingerland shells (or that Buddy Rich f a rted on his throne, or John Bonham spilled beer on the floor tom, or whatever happens to be in a given ad) you should only offer what you think is reasonable for the risk of investing in the kit as presented.

Minimally ask for high resolution pics of the shell interiors to help evaluate the shell condition. Also consider tallying up the value of all the parts to come to some valuation of the "whole" deal.

OK, here is the purist take, LEAVE IT BE!!! for $1500.00 you can buy alot of top of the line American vintage drums kits 100% original,, I will love this statement till I die, I've had countless sound engineers rave over this kit, Yeah and Jackson Browne recorded running on empty on an empty peach box as a bass drum SO??? and this is with real Pro Sound Engineers not the run of the mill schmucks that call themselves one. this Franken kit thing strikes many cords in me Eye Ball

Darn good advise. What if those shells are not slingerlands. That would hurt.

I was just wondering that being that it cost a certain amount of money to restore drums plus they are old . If someone had 1300.00 to spend to me it seems like a fair price .However after reading some of your replies , i guess i was wrong

darheis, look at it this way it already ran on ebay and didn't sale. to most of us vintage guys at what ever level your at .sees this as a red herring, it's re wrapped in a very personal color, it's been altered by all the things done to the drums, the only collectedly left are the shells and not much at that especially the top tier price that is being asked for this frankie kit. If it floats your boat then buy it, but come resale time you'll take one beating.

If you're diggin on the drums don't let anyone here talk you out of them. However use the advice to evaluate them and determine what they are worth to you - not what the seller wants to get out of them. If you think the $1,300 is a fair price then grab them before somebody else does, then post up some pics and let us know how they really sound!
