IMO, David brings a different line of thought to each of his clinics..You will always leave with a new trick or two..

Just love his style..

Amazing drummer! The beginning of that solo is an example of something I talked about in another thread. He starts out with a long buzz roll and as he raises the sticks higher off the head, he seamlessly transitions the buzz roll into a double stroke roll. Great control of the sticks!

You have to check out his cover of Gangnam Style on You Tube. The man really tears it up!

lj - Jones does something I have seen few other great drummers do... the man smiles while he plays and looks to be having the greatest time in the world! That was always something I loved about Papa Joe Jones... the man always looked like he was having the time of his life back there just playing.

David Jones is not only a great player, he has a technical facility that is second to none. I play traditional grip and I recognize all the little hand and finger moves and tricks he uses to milk the rebound from the drum for all it's worth.

Thanks for posting this.

Yes his engaging smile makes his playing appear effortless...Here's one more convincing clip of his ability.. During the 80's David toured internationally with John Williams and "Sky" (for those that may not know his history) and he was conducting drum clinics way back then as well.

Cheers

I've know David personally for over 20+yrs!, &have had the pleasure of learning off him as well! :).He's had a extensive career as a 'session" drummer in the 70s&80s(&90s to i think), before forming/joining "Atmosphere".He also played with the world famous &ONLY band EVER to be asked BACK to the world famous Montreux jazz festival. The band "pyramid", google it&you'll hear&see some of the most AMAZING fusion/jazz playing EVER! :).Do you all know that he's from Australia? :) &Melbourne at that!(music capital of Australia) ! :).

Well you are indeed a lucky man.. (apart from the living in Melbourne of course). :)

I first saw him at a clinic I think late 70's Sydney Musos Club.. but have been watching him ever since.. I do have a few recordings of him...He would have to be a great teacher..

Cheers
